Far from the stereotypical image of a group of senseless girls, these eight women and two men may be among the smartest cheerleaders in the world — future physicists, materials scientists, and nuclear engineers.
“There’s this stereotype of the dumb cheerleader, but at MIT nobody fits the image,” says Jennifer Navarro, a senior studying mechanical engineering and a former high school cheerleader from Las Vegas, who founded the squad because, she says, MIT had no pep.
